|
|
What I learned is: If you have a project you need a logo.
If you have a logo, you can imagine for what you are fighting. That helps so much. That is my experience.
A good logo tells you more than thousand words can do.
It is no my competence to work with photoshop or illustrator. So the onnly thing I can do is to help brainstorming:
- the logo should be simple (don´t think about the meaning of the logo, my old mom MUST recognize it as the oc.com logo)
- what is in the logo? nature and technik? a tree with a compass? a tree with a gps?
- just an animal? (wwf has already the panda ... such a pitty )
Please post your ideas into this forum. Or feel free to design a logo, put it on a website and post the link in this forum.
Do we want to have a deadline for finding a logo? Perhaps the 1. Dezember?
With kind regards from Hamburg/Germany Kai |

There already IS a logo (well, two, one much more 'simple', that's my favour). There has been a calling for an 'open source logo' in October of 2002. Please have a look here:
http://bytethebullet.com/geologo/
Im my eyes the 'G' is a good thing, solid (brand recognition) and flexible (alter for different needs) at the same time.

Take the Gx public-domain logo and put a red "o" with it to signify the open geocaching movement. _________________ Scout http://GPSgames.org

| Interesting. I always wondered where that Gx came from. I assumed it was some Christian geocacher's logo. (And, no I'm not kidding.) |

I does!! The 'scrambled' stile of the Gx should IMO not be smoothed, it gives the thing the pirate-style. Without, I'ts too smooth, too cool, without soul. My feelings. Make it thicker but keep it that bit messy. Btw: Somewhere down bytethebullet there is a PSD-File, which is best choice for designing an own version. I have a GIMP-one, if you like to have it, mail me.
The 'open' is really nice, it's fresh. I'd like it a bit bigger, I think.

And me. But use the hand-drawn Gx logo, not the smoothed one (i.e., the one in nici's post, not the version of Gx you used). _________________ Scout http://GPSgames.org

How about:
It gets away from the Christian-looking symbol. True, it's a little mechanical, but that's a tip of the hat to technology. The "O" also looks a little like a orbit signifying orditing satellites and a global hobby.
[EDIT: changed hosts. Old free host no longer allows remote linking. Go figure.]
