|
|
I suck at spelling, but I'm a decent wordsmith and I'll contribute what I can here ... up to and including a first stab at the home page ... but it would be great if others were to take the ball here.
A FAQ would be good
1. What is opencaching.com?
2. What are we doing?
3. Can I help?
4. ...
Someone also needs to start thinking about all the other text stuff ... help, general descriptions of geocaching, registration info, ... if you like this stuff and are good at it, have at it ... |

I can spell and BS with the best of them. So, I'll offer my assistance with the FAQ's and any other part of the site as needed. _________________ Happiness is having a daughter that wants to play hockey. |

I would love to be an editor, spelling, apostrophe, grammar-wise, and that sort of thing. All the mistakes I see at gc.com and forums drive me NUTS. (I love to write, as well, if you need more than one or two.) I have to say, though, that I only know basic HTML, so I'm not sure how helpful I can be without all the technical stuff. _________________ Smile first thing in the morning....and get it over with. No HTML required to write HPD ... that's what monkeys and designers are for
Not enough folks realize that they aren't good at everything, that's why there is so much mediocre stuff on the web. A good writer is a good thing. If you want things to think about, look at the other sites out there and then consider you have a blank piece of paper here.
A good 'Welcome' page is needed.
Basics on the sport/activity are needed
A start on a FAQ for the site
Once there are actually some pages, we'll need help files/directions for them.
Or if you just want to correct stuff you see, that's fine too, though authoring assistance is the first order of the day.
Thanks! |

Hmmm. What kind of subject matter are you looking for in a welcome? This is not a competition, but a supplement, correct? so....hmmm. I've read the opening paragraph, bounced over to gc.com....*thinking* _________________ Smile first thing in the morning....and get it over with. W.C. Fields |

| I think gc.com does a lot of things right ... of course being original material I don't want to break anyone's copyright:) ... but directionally, the welcome page has to have the complete newbie in mind ... what the heck is a geocache? Why would I look for one? What do I need to do this? ... I suppose we could make some statement about being 'open' here, but I don't think the average geocache seeing the site for the first time really cares about that. |

Just my $.02, but I think we need to keep the home page somewhat quick and simple. I think the FAQs should answer the specifics.
Don't overwhelm newbies with too much info. Just enough to get an idea of what we are doing here and a brief explanation of geocaching. _________________ Happiness is having a daughter that wants to play hockey. |

| Why not have newbie forum. A place where questions can be asked without all the smart remarks you often see at other web sites. When I first started caching I learned alot just by reading the posted comments by experienced cachers. |

| A newbie forum is a fine idea ... but just to clarify something, this forum we're using is for development ... it's on my todo list to create an integrated forum system, and we'll start anew there ... for a branded, integrated site I really hate all the options that are out there for forums as they are all too detailed and too styled (badly) to integrate as a part of a whole ... they are fine as a stand along thing though ... it serves it's purpose well here. |

A newbie link, then, on the intro page?

A newbie forum is a great idea. However, how do you suggest we keep all of the smart alecks from chiming in on the newbies? Stict censorship on one forum? _________________ Happiness is having a daughter that wants to play hockey. |

In good time
I'm a 'make it work' kind of guy ... I always work about 'make it pretty' later. if you know a make it pretty person, have them post in the 'Design Wizards' forum ... I like pretty things, I'm just not any good at them ... |

Hmarq, how about a beaver holding a piece of wood for the logo?
My apologies to the rest of this forum. This was an inside joke that I couldn't resist. _________________ Happiness is having a daughter that wants to play hockey. |

How about:
