I am not a JAVA programmer so please forgive what may be a stupid question, but if the idea is to blur the cache registries between GC NC and here, could someone write a JAVA app that would fill in the blanks for each site using one set of data (The cache owner could list it once through the program and it would go to GC and NC both)?
This way if there were caches that GC didn't want to list, it could still get listed somewhere. |

A variant of this is a program that could be used to transfer one's cache from one listing site to another. Gather the data from GC, for example, and upload it to OG (or NC, or wherever).
Assuming the original suggestion gets implemented, it reveals a flaw in the thinking that a cache might have a "source." Many players might not think of any single cache listing service as being the master. They've uploaded their cache to different sites and all copies are equal. OG should plan to keep multiple copies of a cache listing in its database if that cache is listed on multiple geocaching listing sites. _________________ Scout http://GPSgames.org

Argh, _please_ not. It's painful. At the moment the second migration of the german community takes place (GC -> NC). They do it because of mistrusting GC.com (what will be the next obstacle they implement) and out of anger, to not be part of letting the monopoly grow. But they hate to have to do it. As far as I know - and beeing webmaster of geocaching.de I have some insight - they'd give up on double-entry accounting as soon as possible: When they find a site they'd feel at home and they'd trust fully.
My dream: One Basisdata to feed all sites including NC and GC.com, we'd have to merge data, but if it's _one_ cache, the description is (normally) identical and having two 'threads' of logs is nonsense anyway.
