Why have you registered at this site?
Obviously, you're a geocacher already (probably registered at another geocaching site) and you're curious about any geocaching information you can acquire.
Are you here because you want to see another geocaching website? Or just curious? Or maybe another reason?
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A POLL. APPARENTLY THE POLL FEATURE IS NOT AVAILABLE, so just respond, please.
OK, the poll feature is working and I'm digging all the colors! _________________

I see the poll ... seems to be working OK.
I'd say this is premature though ... of course folk are curious; there isn't any content yet:) Though the curiosity is definitely driven by something ... |

| Why am I here --- well I was getting kind of bored and was thinking of shutting off the computer for the night, but still have half a bottle of Guinness left. |

I'm here because I want to see what's going on plus I like the open market idea. I participate in many GPS related games. I think the active discussion of new ideas is a good thing.
I think a place to openly discuss geocaching.com without fear of censorship is a good thing. Do I think anyone should be bashing other sites? No, of course not.
The only major gripe I have right now is Irish and his handling of the demise of the Leaderboard. Many have stepped up to the plate to create a new one. Irish appears not to care and that's no way to treat your donors.
We are not customers, we are donors, and we can decide to not donate anymore. At a recent meeting I heard some real frustrations. Not in the open course of the meeting but among the chit-chat. It's only a matter of time before the chit-chat becomes an uproar. The talk about not donating again has already started. _________________ -beatnik-

It is Jeremy's site and he can do what he wants with it, but frankly I'm more than a little annoyed at the narrow direction he is going. There are many aspects others seem to enjoy, and he is squelching them. (Again, his site, his rules.) I would like to see an alternative site with other features that we can enjoy.
This is not meant to bash gc.com. It just isn't fully meeting our geocaching desires. It's a shame really. GC.com could have gone much further if he allowed it to expand in all of its variations.
So here we are. Our team is ready to participate in a new geocaching site. |

Tritto Team Sonora. I'll still be active at gc.com, but I hope that the hobby will evolve past any one person having total control over the rules. _________________ Team Og Rof A Klaw

I will support geocaching in what ever form it takes and on any site.
I am very happy with GC.com. Navicache is ho hum.
However, Jeremy's rude, sarcastic, dirisive, remarks to people in the forums are a great disappointment to me. The man needs to take a class on customer relations/service. How many people (here) reading this agreed with me, over there, when I would gig him for acting like a snotty prince? I have faith that he will change his tune.
I am also not fond of the narrowing of viewpoints toward certain types of caches. Separate them if you must, like benchmarking, but don't try to limit or do away with them.
The reactionary nature of the rules is a sore spot too. Someone saw someone who said something to someone else and now everyone out of the pool until we can make it shallower.
Will there be an "Other Stuff" forum here eventually??? |

Just be aware ... folks registering for this reason may be 'altered' on the full site ... I'd really like to be able to do things with 'clean' urls ... ie
http://www.opencaching.com/profile/username
That doesn't work too well, particularly for spiders and crawler if the username has spaces in it ... so you could end up being The_Diver or TheDiver at some point.
Since more and more folks seem to be doing this, I'm resigned to moving over the user table from the boards as best I'm able, but there will be issues like this ... |

Changing the name is not a problem with me. I actually hate it when someone at work creates a file or directory with embedded spaces. |

Morbid curiosity.
I dont really see what the beef is with gc.com. The reason not much is going on with stats right now is that Groundspeak is only a few people. They are currently all working on getting the mapping back up and running. From what I have been able to gather there have been some frustrations with getting the map database to jive with the cache database.
I think that after the map feature is back up, that locationless, virtuals, and yes, even stats will be addressed.
As long as I can download waypoints I am happy. Everything else is a frill. |

The two biggest issues I have with gc.com are:
- They do not allow backend access to the database for local geocaching web site to provide local services
- They won't implement any system to provide greater access to disabled geocachers.
