Other players would like more. Some of them have the technical skills to develop value-added features to serve the community. gc.com makes it d*mned hard for anyone else to provide such features. _________________ Scout http://GPSgames.org

My biggest concern with the Geocaching.com site is that it is currently a being run as a monopoly/dictatorship (take your pick). If we continue to allow this to grow in this fashion, we will eventually reach a point where the monopoly is so strong, it can't be broken. Microsoft is the perfect example of what the future of geocaching is if we don't start taking back the sport. The only way I know to do that is through competition. The Navicache GUI is step levels below what the Geocaching.com site offers, but at the moment it is the only real alternative we have. _________________ Wayne |

| We are here because competition is good. While Navicache is competition we find it awkward to use and on the subjective side just plain unpleasant to visit. |

Obviously, you're a geocacher already (probably registered at another geocaching site) and you're curious about any geocaching information you can acquire.
Are you here because you want to see another geocaching website? Or just curious? Or maybe another reason?

I want to see whats going on with this site. If this site can/will improve caching in some way, good. But until I can see which way this is going I'll mostly just be lurking about. |

I really just wanted to check the site out to see what you have to offer I am also not a big fan of gc.com due to the types of people that have so
called made up organizations and all they do is use and abuse the gc.com
and no one seem's to care. I am a nebbie pretty much a friend of mine
got me into geocaching just a few weeks ago and I agree with her it is a
lot of fun . She had interduce me to a grp of cachers who call them selfs
the NTXGA boy let me tell you they are a big joke. They have an old man
who calls him self the back bone of the NTXGA who goes by cacheaholic.
But my point is they are hook up with gc.com and I personally would love
to have a choice of what site I want to be on. From what I have read here
and so far I like what I see. You have made posting and replying to a topic
pretty easy. I like the smiley faces we can use and man other tools also. I
will be keeping my eye open for this site will make a little more compention in the gc world. |

So it's up to us, not him, to decide how the game is played.
Just because he doesn't like stats or virts is no reason to say that geocaching is a non-competitive pasttime or is always a container and a log book.
Geocaching will be defined by the geocachers, not gc.com. |

That why I'm here. I don't like the approvers dictating what kind of caches we can hide and seek. |

I've supported Jeremy Irish for several years now and am active in a statewide geocaching association. I am tremendously disappointed to see that state and local associations have zero input on ''THE RULES''. While geocaching.com is a great site for the most part, I believe that it should be directed by representatives of substantial state and local organizations. As such, I support the hobby of geocaching and believe that no internet site OWNS the hobby any more than Garmin, Magellan or Lowrance. I believe the only entity that should be able to dictate our hobby is the United States Air Force because without their GPS sattelites, our hobby would be letterboxing. So, because of all that, I am investigating alternatives in order to strengthen the hobby should the day come that Mr. Irish decides to flip the switch off and leave it that way. _________________ Team leader

Basically, I'm about the same. I'm still a paying member at gc.com...and still think it's the best $30 a year I can pay for the service I get. While I'd like a little different decisions at that site....it's still a service that I don't own and I can take it or leave it. I'm here also because just in case one site goes down in flames.....I'd like a fall back site......Navicache just doesn't seem to be getting much use....and this site is a bit easier to navigate through. _________________ If God is your Co-Pilot, change seats!!

| Sorry to bump an old thread, but just wanted to say I'm here for pretty much most of the same reasons as the rest of you. |
