Let me preface this with I have practically no knowledge of GPX, XML, or semantics that go with it. Please forgive my errors when I call one thing something else. Feel free to correct me. Thanks!

Perhaps one of the most important things that will be needed to get a true open caching movement going forward is a way to dynamically present cache information. What I'm talking about is a GPX private namespace similar to the one the GROUNDSPEAK namespace that geocaching.com uses.

The importance of this become evident when you start thinking about how to present cache information to cachers and how different cache sites talk to each other.

I'm looking for discussion on what should be included in this namespace and for someone(s) to set this up.

Come on! Let get this rolling!

For what it's worth, I've hashed up something like this (albeit it's rather biased towards the system I am attempting to build), but it may serve as a decent starting point. It bears a lot of similarity to GroundSpeak's own GPX-extensions, but to some extent I fear that's unavoidable.

Anyway, the XSD is available from http://keyori.optera.net/1/0/geocache.xsd

Free to the public to use/abuse, although I'd like to hear any feedback if anyone has any. Smile

The difficulty with XML/XSD systems is that the XML needs to reference the source URL for the XSD in order to validate, and as such, the XSD needs to live on a dedicated host, in a dedicated location, with a dedicated name, lest it get to be a chaotic mess.

I'd love to be more contributibe at the moment, but unfortunately I'm headed out of town for the week and am quite short on time; feel free to PM and/or email me, and I'll get in touch when I return, and hopefully then I'll have some more time to browse the forums and contribute a bit..

Cheers!
