I am wondering wat is currently happening within the openacaching community.
Who is programming the new server?
Are these scripts available to everyone to add to other sites?
Can anyone make his homepage into a opencaching hub, if the server can run php, mySQL, etc.?
Is there already a decision about the opencaching avatar / logo?
I am very confused about what is happening now. _________________

Great questions.
I think there are at least 3 groups of folks working on 'nodes' ... the folks at opencaching.de, BMW-Driver and company (or is that the same as oc.de?) ... and me working on stuff here.
It's been quiet I suspect because folks are actually working on stuff rather than talking about it
I'll be posting some search pages a little later for folks to bang on. Not sure where the .de folks are as I don't read German and babelfish does a pretty crappy job of translating.
As for 'can anybody be a node'? ... I'm not sure where that stands at the moment, I personally shifted focus to work on this node so that there would be a place to add and search data rather than worrying about all the cross site protocol stuff. It's safe to say that anyone with the knowledge can be a receiving node and on a single cache basis others can host their own pages ... I don't think the full node syndication stuff has been hammered out enough to say beyond that.
No I don't believe a logo has been selected. |

A logo is on the backburner until some of the more pressing organizational issues have been resolved.
I'd like to see the organization up and running with a recognized legal structure before we select a logo. There is a lot of work to be done before we hit that stage. However the site work is moving faster than the organization so we may need a logo sooner than that.
There are two directions we can go with a logo. One is the community sponsored logo that is free for anyone to use for any reason. It has no trademark or logo protections. The other is that opencaching has a logo that only members and sanctioned opencaching network sites can use. This logo would need to be protected by some means. Which way to go, depends on how we organize. |

I think there should be some page, where protocols , technical data, etc. should be posted, I mean very detailed....
I wish there was a page where te progress is shown, so everyone can see that there are thinks happening, otherwise the attention might get lost.
Is there some way I can help ?
I've experience in website building, javascript, CSS.

Good thinking. To much talking only divides the community. I know, first hand.
GeoGerard and me want to contribute. I already registered OpenCaching.NL, reserved a server and have the resources to host the server. I'm NOT a coder, not a programmer. At the moment I'm looking for Dutch coders to contribute to a Dutch mirror.
Is it possible, just like our German friends, to open a dutch section in this forum ?
Keep up the good work. |
