I think, that's a good idea. An newsletter for the whole project, with chapters for the different threads/groups. It should have short info on the latest discussions in the different groups (orga, design, tech). People who are interested but can't follow all the discussions (because of shortness of time or knowledge) can thus have an update every, say, 14 days or so and can follow the development of the project in other than their own field of interest/knowledge. It would be a helpful 'frame' for the project as a whole.
How could we organise this?

If someone else is doing it, go forth and prosper ... but I wonder who the audience is that doesn't already tune in here, even anonymously ...
If you're talking a dead tree thing you send to folks a propoganda ... that's an org thing and you're welcome to it |

I was thinking something that would be a newletter to start. Independant politically but someday a value added service of opencaching.
Propoganda isn't what I think needs to happen. It would be an insult to geocachers.
It should cover opencaching developments. Keenpeople and M-Class stats, Rumors on Dan's coming back. Buxleys', all geocaching sites and whats' going on in general.
I'll add it to the organization side and see what we can come up with. Now all we need is a journalist type. |

Ok guys, I've got a site (not set up) that we can use for a newsletter. It's a matter of getting a webmaster who can run it, and people/reporters who are willing to write. While I do think opencaching should be covered, I don't think the newsletter should be limited to that.
My idea is simiply to find the people willing to run it and turn them loose. The ultimate goal would be to have a newsletter or magazine as an independent arm of opencaching that at least breaks even, but hopefully helps fund the sites. |

I was a journalist for 15 years. I would be interested in discussing this further.
I agree that any magazine/newsletter should be independant and should cover all aspects of the sport. _________________

Could this be a news site in addition to a newsletter?
Hmmm... A newsletter site really only needs a way to sign up for it, a way to unsubscribe, and maybe an archive section.
Behind the scenes stuff could be handled on a private message board. Contributors could post articles and then the editor just adds everything together and sends it out.
I've never done anything like that so I'm just thinking out loud.

A good newsletter/magazine would need to be operated independantly of any existing geocaching-related website. Having said that, it would also need a good working relationship with all the related sites. _________________

| Now that Todays cacher is up and running we have all of geocaching covered. I'd still like to see a newsletter specific to our efforts. A lot of work is going on though you can't see it. |

| Any updates? What's going on with the opencaching.com newsletter? I think the Today's Cacher online magazine is a great magazine for all things geocaching. But a newsletter updating members about what this organization is doing would be good too. |

The project is on the backburner in large part due to Todays Cacher. |

The ides isn't gone yet, but now a simple Blog or something that lets you put out a list of geocaching related land manager type events.
Thus you have one source for both the successes of geocaching and where parks have imposed rules, and bannings. |
