Hi, new to this site, but a bit frustrated with some aspects of gc.com, even though I use it and otherwise love it.
To stop the smart alecks, you need moderators, good ones. GC.com realized that too late, then they went a bit crazy with their censoring. |

Jeremy Irish was censoring his forums over two years ago (for bad reasons, imo). The ironic thing is that, before he set up his own forum, he announced he was leaving the original geocaching mailing list because he objected to the moderation he was subjected to. _________________ Scout http://GPSgames.org

Yes, this may be the obvious answer but not a simple solution. For instance, we have already had a guest express his disgust that only registered users can post in the forums (with the exception of the Just Say Hi forum).
So, any form of censorship/moderation will have it's fair share of criticism. And, that was really my point from the first post. _________________ Happiness is having a daughter that wants to play hockey. |

My $0.02
I really dislike censorship and I'm inclined to let idiots look like idiots ... the readers can make up their own mind. I can see where if harm can come from a post that it should be edited down or out.
For example in the 'General' forum this morning ... there are 2 posts that would probably be deleted many places, I just locked. The problem with censorship is it's subjective to a great degree -- it is a 'general' forum, should stuff just be deleted becuase a couple people (or even 1) think a post is goofy? |

I disagree - I think the index-page should be very straightforward and allow a very fast orientation. All those texts for newbies would make the page long, texty (is there such a word and the opposite of straightforward.
I'm sure a Link like 'new to this?...' would make it. Of course good to see somewhere 'top'.

In german language we do have a lot of things already (for newbies at al). Scout has a good history text, and dozens of private pages have genious texts about all possible aspects...
What I mean is: There already _IS_ a lot of information that may be used!
